In a memo to employees after his decision to resign in late April, Goodfellow wrote that he "strongly believed that greater flexibility would be the best policy for his team." He appeared opposed to returning to Apple's office even in a hybrid mode of operation after the pandemic ended.

Ian Goodfellow is the creator of the GAN algorithm and one of the most prominent experts in artificial intelligence and machine learning. He has contributed extensively to various machine learning programs and algorithms, including the TensorFlow and Theano libraries.
