Apple is gearing up to introduce a more affordable version of its iconic AirPods, dubbed the AirPods Lite, in a strategic move to expand its consumer base and adapt to the shifting market demands. Analyst Jeff Pu, during a recent investor meeting, disclosed the tech giant's plans to launch these cost-effective wireless earbuds in the latter half of 2024. In addition to the AirPods Lite, Pu also hinted at an updated version of the AirPods Max, set to release later the same year, marking a significant expansion in Apple's audio product lineup.

The introduction of the AirPods Lite is anticipated to significantly boost Apple's earbud production later this year, attributed to the affordable model's launch. Despite this expansion, Pu projects a 4% decline in the overall demand for the company's earbuds, dropping to 55 million units, due to a decrease in interest for the current models.

This forecast aligns with earlier reports from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who also mentioned Apple's efforts to produce cheaper wireless earbuds, targeting a price point of $99. Concurrently, Mark Gurman from Bloomberg revealed Apple's plans for the AirPods 4, expected to feature two different models this year. It remains uncertain if these models include the discussed budget-friendly earbuds.

Apple's strategic move to introduce a more accessible version of its popular AirPods aims to cater to a broader audience, potentially countering the predicted downturn in demand with an appealing price point and the allure of new product offerings.
