This edition is special in a way - exactly 20 years have passed since the book was published. Twenty years are not a small period of time, during this time the children of our first readers have grown up and, perhaps, become interested in computer networks. And, probably, they will have the 6th edition of the book "Computer Networks. Principles, Technology, Protocols." This book is much different than the one their parents were reading. Many of the things that interested readers in the late 90's - such as the rule of 4 hubs, IP and IPX reconciliation, or the comparison of 100VG-AnyLAN and FDDI technologies - are not mentioned at all in the latest editions. In 20 years, quite a few technologies have gone through the full cycle from trendy term and universal acceptance to near oblivion. Each new edition of the book has reflected, in one way or another, the changing landscape of networking technology.
