Cryptocurrency miners in Texas shut down their farms this week because of the heat.

Texas electric grid operators have asked residents and businesses to conserve energy as extreme hot weather leads to record electricity demand in Texas.

Most miners heeded the request. Shutting down the farms helped save more than 1,000 megawatts of power and reduced the load on the grid by 1 percent.
