DeepMind has released a "general-purpose" artificial intelligence system that can be taught to perform many different types of tasks. Researchers trained the system, called Gato, to perform 604 tasks, including adding captions to images, participating in dialogues, stacking blocks with a robotic arm and playing Atari games.

An achievement in the artificial intelligence industry is the creation of a system with Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), or the ability to understand and learn any task a human can perform. AGI was supposed to create systems that could reason, plan, learn, represent knowledge, and communicate in natural language.
