The editor and all projects on it will finally be archived by December 15, 2022, the company said in a statement. After that, all Atom projects will be read-only.

For those who have been actively using Atom, you should know that the editor code is distributed under a free license from MIT and everyone can create its fork if they want.

GitHub has also announced that Atom will be replaced by VS Code from Microsoft, which is popular among developers. It's worth recalling that since the end of 2018, GitHub has been the property of Windows and other software developers.
