Although God of War Ragnarok failed to win the title of Best Game of 2022 at The Game Awards, it won the Game of the Year award on the PlayStation Blog. The PlayStation Blog hosts its own set of awards each year, allowing users to vote for their favorite games. Like most year-end awards, games can win in a variety of categories, such as graphics, music and story.

The PlayStation Blog doesn't recognize just one game in each area and instead gives out platinum, gold, silver and bronze trophies for the different categories. This is based on the four types of trophies that users can earn by playing on the PlayStation console , with the platinum trophy reserved to unlock all other game trophies. A full list of the 2022 awards season winners has been published on the PlayStation Blog.

God of War Ragnarok won the Game of the Year award according to the PlayStation Blog on both PS4 and PS5, while Elden Ring , Horizon Forbidden West and Stray received gold, silver and bronze trophies in that order. The full list corresponds exactly to the PS4 and PS5 consoles, probably because all four games are different generation releases. God of War Ragnarok won the crown in every category in which it was nominated, including story, graphics, artwork and soundtrack.

In addition to the above, Thor from God of War Ragnarok won the award for best new character of 2022, and Odin from the same game won the silver trophy. Malenia from Elden Ring had to settle for fourth place, as the gold went to Cat from Stray . Elden Ring and Horizon Forbidden West often appear in the remaining slots in various categories, and games like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and The Last of Us Part 1 also win some trophies. Call of Duty: Warzone 2 won the award for best current game of 2022, and Gran Turismo 7 won in the sports department.
Since the voting took place on the official PlayStation blog, games from third-party developers are likely to dominate the various categories. Sony has released some standout exclusives this year, with God of War Ragnarok , Horizon Forbidden West and Gran Turismo 7 getting high marks in reviews. It may be hard to match 2023 in terms of its own content in 2022, although Sony recently confirmed that Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is due out in the fall . PlayStation gamers also have several third-party console exclusives to look forward to in 2023, along with the release of the PS VR2 in February.
