Google is going to

Add telemetry collection to the Go language toolkit and enable the sending of collected data by default. It will appear in command-line utilities, including "go", the compiler, gopls and govulncheck applications.

Google says it wants to get the missing information about the needs and characteristics of developers through bug reports and surveys. Such statistics will provide an opportunity to upgrade tools, improve usability and focus on features developers need, the company assures.

To disable the sending of telemetry, the environment variable "gotelemetry=off" must be set.
