Information security specialist Greg Linares reported an unconventional attempt to hack the system of a U.S. investment firm.

Attackers modified DJI drones (Matrice 600 and Phantom) with a WiFi Pineapple pentest tool.

The drones were sent to the roof of the building where the company is based and used the MAC address of one of the employees to try to hack into the systems.

The company suspected something was wrong when it detected unexplained activity on Atlassian Confluence. Security launched an investigation and discovered that the user whose MAC address had been used to gain partial access to the company's Wi-Fi was also logged in, but at his home several kilometers away from the office.
