According to Hull Live, a recent survey with 457 past marathon participants highlighted miles 15 to 21 as a particularly daunting stretch. Nearly 40% of the runners reported a dip in pace, marking this area as a psychological battle. The transformation of the hotel aims to counter this challenge, lifting spirits at a moment when many need it most.

A Vital Community Effort

Marina Valerio, the manager of the ‘Keep Go-Inn’, expressed her delight over the hotel’s transformation: “The London marathon is no mean feat, so we wanted to do our bit to encourage all the inspirational people who are taking part.” The encouragement wasn’t limited to rebranding. Celebrities and participants in humorous costumes, along with the cheers of seven hotel employees running for the Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity, enriched the vibrant atmosphere.

The cheering crowds were noted as essential by an overwhelming 94% of survey respondents, providing that crucial push needed to reach their goals. Three-quarters of these runners confessed they wouldn’t have made it without that energetic support.

A good night’s sleep, as preferred by 40% of respondents, and a solid breakfast loaded with slow-releasing carbs, as emphasized by British Athletics coach Lucy Waterlow, are both golden rules for marathon preparation. “A good breakfast is really important if you want to keep going in the marathon,” she advised, suggesting options like porridge or wholemeal toast for sustained energy.
