Organized by the Green River Regional Educational Cooperative (GRREC), this initiative is designed to provide equal opportunities for young learners to explore careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Students were immersed in hands-on exhibits that included everything from 3D printing to the captivating realm of flight simulators and robotics. The event’s mission is simple but profound: to ensure that STEM education is accessible to every child, offering new avenues of interest and potential career paths. Kaylee Crowder, GRREC’s events coordinator, emphasized the importance of extending STEM opportunities to all students, not only to those traditionally seen as high achievers.

This endeavor is fueled by the General Motors Community Impact Grant, which aims to uplift underserved communities. This year’s event is reaching approximately 600 students across several schools, familiarizing them with cutting-edge technologies that might one day become their professional playgrounds. Alyas Johnson, a budding scientist from R.E. Stevenson Elementary School, exclaimed about his newfound excitement, saying, “I got to see a vacuum happen, and there was a lot of cool stuff. We talked about corvettes, and I got to touch a robot.”

The excitement continues as students from grades six through 12 gear up for their turn this Friday. The hands-on learning experiences are set to inspire and nurture Kentucky’s future workforce, turning today’s curiosity into tomorrow’s innovation.
