The Windows 11 Insider test build includes native support for working with tar, 7-zip, rar and gz. There will be other improvements related to working with archivers in the OS. For example, the speed of packing files into an archive in Windows 11 will be improved. New features for working with archives will be integrated into the summer test builds of Windows 11.

The developers specified that this is done so that users do not have to install third-party applications to access archives, similar to the standard built-in support for zip, which appeared in Windows in 1998.
