Meet Megan Manion: Etown's Aspiring Occupational Therapist
In the bustling corridors of Elizabethtown College, where approximately 2,000 students tread daily, one story stands out - that of Megan Manion, a determined student in the 3+2 master’s program for occupational therapy. Her journey reflects insights into the rigorous yet rewarding path of an aspiring medical professional.
A Path Chosen from Passion
Megan hails from Willow Street, Pennsylvania. From a young age, the medical field drew her in despite her aversion to the traditional roles of nurses and doctors. “The medical field always had a draw to me,” she reflects, “but I was never interested in being a nurse or doctor.” As opposed to traditional medical careers, occupational therapy appealed to her for its personal patient interaction, allowing her to make a tangible difference in people’s everyday lives.
The Journey Through Challenges
Like many students, Megan faced challenges balancing her academic and personal life. Initially, the transition from high school to college offered new freedoms but required an adjustment in time management skills. Despite these hurdles, Megan successfully earned a Bachelor of Science in Health Science in 2025. According to The Etownian, adapting to collegiate life is a common challenge, but one that Megan navigated with tenacity.
Rigors of Graduate Life
Graduate school introduced Megan to yet another set of challenges, where assignments demanded more time and critical thinking. “These assignments can’t be put off until the last minute,” Megan notes, marking a departure from more lenient undergraduate deadlines. The workload in her occupational therapy program is intense, requiring a strategic balance of commitment and precision.
Finding Her Place at Etown
Etown’s campus, with its welcoming community and trusted Occupational Therapy program, became Megan’s second home. The college’s proximity to home was crucial for her, as it allowed her to stay close to her twin sister, Jenna.
Looking Forward
As Megan looks toward graduating with her Master’s in Occupational Therapy in May 2026, her future in the health sector looks bright. Her journey through Etown has equipped her with the skills and resilience needed for her desired role in a hospital setting.
Megan’s story is just one among many at Elizabethtown College, but it embodies a blend of ambition, family values, and commitment to her community. Her path serves as inspiration for students defining their own journeys within the realms of higher education and beyond.
