Microsoft soon plans to release DirectStorage 1.1 technology, which will allow the graphics card almost directly receive data from the SSD, accelerating the loading of game worlds.
This technology is already used in the Xbox Series S and Series X gaming consoles.
DirectStorage 1.0 was released in March 2022. However, it allowed for faster loading of games on fast NVMe drives. In DirectStorage 1.0, data is first sent to the CPU for decompression and only then transferred to GPU memory.
