The impact occurred between May 22 and 24, 2022. Apparently, it was a meteorite that struck the C3 segment. At that time, NASA said only a minor effect that occurred after the impact.

Now it is said about the irreversible damage. Scientists had to try and adjust the mirror to compensate for most of the negative effects.
