The real impact of this technology was demonstrated in a recent incident involving a juvenile hit-and-run. “Recently there was a hit-and-run of a juvenile, and within days we were able to locate the suspect, but this would’ve taken probably minutes to hours to locate the driver with this technology,” said Surace. With a sprawling area of 736 square miles to cover, Wakulla County is harnessing this technology as a “full-force multiplier,” according to Surace. “We only have a certain amount of deputies working at one time; this again becomes a full-force multiplier, where we have additional manpower helping us,” he added, reinforcing how LPRs provide vital support in monitoring multiple locations simultaneously.
