SlashNext has released a study according to which attackers use generative artificial intelligence technologies to prepare and implement phishing attacks and spread malware.

They use OpenAI's ChatGPT and the WormGPT cybercrime tool. The latter is based on the GPTJ language model, which was developed in 2021. WormGPT offers unlimited character support, chat memory retention and the ability to format code.

According to the researchers, WormGPT can exhibit "strategic stealth" to orchestrate sophisticated phishing attacks. It has been trained on datasets related to malicious activity, but the author does not disclose what the data is.
