The Future of Business: Embracing People-Centric Innovation

Self-Improvement Nov 12, 2025

In a world that prioritizes technology, the true catalysts of innovation and success often remain forgotten. However, Chizoba Mojekwu, a renowned organisational development expert, emphasizes the urgent need for businesses to prioritize people over processes and technology. “In today’s interconnected business environment, innovation is driven by human connection and emotion,” Mojekwu stated during the Nigeria–South Africa Chamber of Commerce (NSACC) Breakfast Meeting in Lagos.

Emphasizing People in a Tech-Driven World

As Mojekwu highlighted, technology is merely a tool until people bring it to life. “Employees make things happen for customers, and customers, in turn, drive business success,” she noted. The digital era connects us globally, making brand reputation vulnerable to even those who aren’t customers. This connectivity underscores the importance of people-centric innovation.

Nurturing Unique Talents

Mojekwu argues that organisations must view employees as invaluable assets rather than mere resources. Every individual brings unique talents and gifts to the table. She stressed that recruitment should focus on competence, but commitment often achieves more. “A true leader must learn from everyone, regardless of age or experience,” she added.

Pioneering Digital Transformation at Central Bank

Reflecting on her experience at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mojekwu shared how a digital learning initiative transformed the bank’s culture. Introducing the Central Bank Learning Portal in 2017 sparked resistance, but effective change management and engagement demonstrated the benefits of digital learning. She pointed out, “Digital learning was inclusion, offering all employees, especially women and younger staff, access to a wealth of resources.”

Empowering Through Inclusion and Trust

Mojekwu’s insights reveal gender gaps in career development and learning at CBN. The digital platform democratized access, allowing women to engage twice as effectively as their male counterparts. By fostering trust, collaboration, integrity, and inclusivity, leaders cultivate a nurturing culture. She likens leadership to parenting, requiring patience and belief in individual potential.

A Call to Connect Emotionally

Mojekwu urged organisations to emotionally connect their purpose and vision with employees. “People need to understand the ‘why’ to feel inspired and committed,” she explained. Organizations that achieve this may unlock unparalleled creativity and innovation, securing their place in the future of business.

As stated in The Nation Newspaper, embracing a people-centric strategy could be the key to ensuring long-term organizational success. The future of business isn’t found in technology or processes, but in the hearts and minds of the people who power them.
